Why All New Moms NEED to See a Pelvic Health PT

You deserve to have complete recovery after birth, ideally starting in the first 2 weeks postpartum.

Giving birth is not easy. We can all agree on that. No matter the exit route, vaginal or c-section, labor and delivery have major impacts on our bodies, especially the pelvic floor and abdominal wall. Even the smoothest of deliveries can have lasting impacts on our bodies.

Many women experience these issues postpartum:

  • leaking when they laugh (cough, sneeze, run, laugh, lift, etc)

  • abdominal wall weakness and DRA (diastasis rectus abdominus)

  • back/pelvic pain

  • scars (c-section, episiotomy or tearing)

  • prolapse (pressure or fullness in the vagina or vulva)

  • pain with intimacy (dyspareunia)

Although these issues are common, they are fixable. And the sooner the better! Do not wait until the 6 week check-up (what’s with that magical timeline anyway?). Earlier rehab leads to faster and more complete recovery. In fact, it is recommended to have at least one session BEFORE you give birth.

In my perfect world as a Pelvic Health PT, every single new mama would be seen by a PT in the first 2 weeks postnatal.
